Site Preparation

Planning for an outdoor kitchen is a crucial step in the installation process. As a homeowner, you must ensure that the chosen location complies with local codes and regulations, and determine if any variances are needed.

Additionally, if you plan to install a gas line, you’ll need a licensed plumber, and an electrician for any required electrical outlets. However, keep in mind that not all outdoor kitchens require plumbing or electrical work.

All of our outdoor kitchen installations made from Wallstone-type materials are built on a concrete footing. You can choose from options like Olde English Wall, Matrix Wall, or Culture Stone. The size of the footing varies depending on the kitchen’s dimensions. Once the footing is excavated, we plan for any sleeves and access points needed for electrical, gas, water, and drainage plumbing.

The first course is set in the concrete. Our team then builds each course using the appropriate adhesive material, and installs metal lintels where there are cabinets or openings, similar to headers above doors or windows in a house. The structure is constructed to the correct heights and notched in the appropriate spots to fit the outdoor kitchen and any add-ons.

Outdoor Kitchen Design

Whether you’re upgrading from a standard standalone grill to a fully functional outdoor kitchen, the design possibilities are endless. Your budget will significantly influence the design of your kitchen, which can be built in various shapes and sizes, such as straight, L-shaped, or U-shaped, with options for add-ons like bar-height seating. Depending on the size of your outdoor kitchen, you can include additional features like cabinets, a sink, extra burners, barbacks, and more. When incorporating these elements, it’s important to consider both form and function, ensuring you retain enough space for food preparation.
