Why Choose a Paver Patio?
Choosing a paver patio transforms your outdoor space into a functional and inviting area perfect for relaxation and entertainment. Pavers come in a wide range of colors, shapes, and textures, allowing you to design a patio that seamlessly integrates with your home’s style and your personal taste. They offer exceptional durability, standing up to weather conditions and heavy foot traffic without cracking or fading.
Pavers also provide excellent drainage, preventing water accumulation and reducing maintenance needs. If a paver becomes damaged, it can be easily replaced without disturbing the surrounding area, ensuring your patio always looks its best. With their blend of aesthetic appeal, resilience, and ease of maintenance, paver patios are an ideal choice for creating a beautiful, long-lasting outdoor living space.
Paver Patio Construction
We install our patios according to manufacturer specifications, starting with a 4-6 inch base of crushed concrete, compacted with a gas-powered plate compactor, followed by a ¼ inch layer of fine mason sand for leveling. The next steps involve installing the pavers, concreting the edges, and finally, applying polymeric sand to the joints of your new patio.
While the installation process may seem complex, rest assured that our expert walkway installers handle every detail with precision. We ensure that each element is meticulously executed to provide you with a durable and stunning paver patio.
Setting Paver Pitch
The initial step in installing a paver patio is assessing the level of your property. This is the most critical step in determining the height of your new paver construction project, as it will influence all subsequent stages.
Once we establish our starting height, we will add a “pitch” to the pavers, typically 1/8th inch for every 1 foot, sloping away from your home. This ensures proper water runoff and prevents the patio from feeling like a ramp. While aesthetics are important, functionality is equally prioritized.
Excavation Phase: Removal of Soil
With the heights set, our crew can begin excavation. We dig down 7-8 inches from the height of our stringline, carting away all the excavated soil. Once the soil is removed, the crew will verify the heights one last time before compacting the ground to help prevent settling.
Paver Sub-base
Our crew will begin by setting up wooden forms to keep our sub-base at the required level. Once these forms are in place and temporarily secured, we start filling the area with concrete aggregate, which serves as the sub-base for all residential projects. The concrete aggregate is installed in layers, meaning we fill the area with 2-3 inches of base, compact it, and repeat until we reach the top of our forms. This method ensures a strong foundation for our paver construction project.
After achieving the desired amount of sub-base, we add a layer of fine sand. The sand is spread over the concrete aggregate sub-base, tamped down, and screeded to a smooth finish. This allows us to level the top of the pavers, accommodating the 1/16th of an inch manufacturing tolerance. This meticulous process ensures both precision and aesthetics.
Setting Up to Lay Pavers
Once the sand is prepared, we can set up our square lines. When laying pavers, the joints between each paver form bond lines, and it’s important to ensure the walkway is aligned squarely with your home or any other designated stationary structure in the area. This approach adheres to proper construction etiquette and is visually appealing. Our team is trained to lay the pavers first, followed by the borders, to achieve the best results.

Final Stages
Next, we add a form of edge restraints around the exposed perimeter of the patio. This edge acts as a restraint to prevent the pavers from shifting out of place. To fill in the joints between the pavers, we use polymeric sand.
In this process, the sand is swept into the joints, and after proper installation, tampering, and adding water, the sand hardens to a solid finish. This helps lock out weeds and keeps the pavers securely in place.
